Here is the next chapter of the BtVS/Baldur’s Gate 2 crossover ‘Tabula Avatar’. It’s been a whole year since the last chapter; sorry about that. Previous chapters can be found HERE. Rating R; this chapter is 9,400 words.

Here is the sixth chapter of my BtVS/Conan crossover The Witch’s Promise. It’s almost a year since I posted the preceding chapter; sorry. Here’s a reprise of the summary; Willow, trying to bring back Tara from death in ‘Seeing Red’/‘Villains’, is offered the chance to divert her to the Hyborian Age instead of to the realms of the dead. She accepts – but now Tara is stranded in a far-off, and long ago, alternate past full of danger (and hot lesbians).

Crossover between ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and the ‘Conan’ stories of Robert E. Howard (not the movies!). Rating R. Conan has been captured by enemies and Tara, together with a beautiful lesbian warrior girl, seeks to rescue him. 8,800 words.

A year ago today my beloved cat Shaka died. I still miss him very much.

While he was ill I started writing a rather sad ‘Lord of the Rings’/’Forgotten Realms’ crossover story called ‘Les Morts Dansant. I stopped writing it when he died but recently I picked it up again and I’ve now finished it. This isn’t the final part but I’ll post the concluding chapter, and then a short Epilogue, over the next few days. Previous parts can be found HERE.

And now a third in the series that started with the LotR ‘spelling mistake’ drabble Kings of the Wild Frontier. As I’m giving all the instalments titles drawn from Adam and the Ants songs I’m calling the series ‘Ent Music’.

Or should that be "Drow me like one of your French girls"?

WriterConUK is next weekend; I’m looking forward to it enormously. There is – just barely – enough time for people who haven’t yet signed up to do so… see the sign-up post...

I’ve been devoting myself to writing Lord of the Rings crossover fic recently, probably because of the corrupting effect of living with, and beta-ing for, [personal profile] curiouswombat. The story on which I’m concentrating at the moment won’t be appearing on LiveJournal because, for some reason, it’s coming out with enormous chapters. Chapter One (which I wrote in only two nights!) is 13,400 words and Chapters Three and Four are even longer – way, way, over the LiveJournal character limit for posts. I believe that Dreamwidth has a bigger limit, and I might see if I can put it up here one day, but not yet.

The story, ‘The Dark Companion’, is based on the idea that the Quest of the Ring was successful only because of a long chain of coincidences, and lucky chances, and that any change is likely to make things worse in the long term even if it brings a short-term gain. Adding a Tenth Walker is unlikely to work out well no matter what abilities he or she can bring to the Fellowship.

In my tale I added Cierre, the Drow Ranger from the Forgotten Realms, who has featured in a couple of my other stories already. She arrives through a portal at Amon Hen just as the Fellowship breaks up, is just too late to save Boromir’s life, and joins with Aragorn for the pursuit of the Hobbit-abducting Orcs. She’s a lethal fighter, a skilled tracker, and a tireless and extremely fast runner; an ideal addition, in theory, but that isn’t how it works out. Black skin in Middle Earth tends to be the mark of the Enemy and she inspires mistrust in everyone they meet; she has her own enemies pursuing her; and a casual remark by Cierre, made in good faith, sets off a chain of events which could destroy everything.

I’m having more fun writing it than I have had in any other story outside the Tabula Avatar ‘verse. For the moment I’m posting it only at the Pit of Voles and at Faerie, the LotR fic archive that was set up as a refuge for people escaping from the wreckage of Lotrfanfiction.com. However I’ve also been producing banners for it and I’m posting them here (behind a cut, of course) as a preview. [personal profile] ellynn_ithilwen produced a couple of images for me to represent Cierre, using as her base pictures of Chinese actress Bingbing Li in her role as Ni Chang, The Bride With White Hair, in the Jackie Chan/Jet Li movie ‘The Forbidden Kingdom’. I’ve built several of the banners, and my current default icon, around those manips. She also produced for me a manip of Éowyn in a somewhat unusual guise…

Here’s the next chapter of my Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir/Stargate SG-1/BtVS crossover fic ‘A Plague of Serpents’ (Sequel to ‘Debt of Blood’). This chapter is 7,150 words, rating R. Previous chapters can be found HERE. If you remember back to the preceding chapter (and it was posted almost exactly a year ago, on January 11th 2011, so you might not) it ended with Chantry getting her throat cut and dying. Luckily, in Faerûn, that’s not necessarily final…

Here is Part Two of my ‘Lord of the Rings’/’Forgotten Realms’ crossover ‘Les Morts Dansant. The first part was a mighty 12,200 words but this is a more modest 4,300 words. PG. Part One is HERE.

Crossover between ‘The Lord of the Rings’ (Book-verse) and the ‘Forgotten Realms’ stories set in the ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ game-world of Faerûn – the canon Forgotten Realms, in which ‘Tabula Avatar’ and its sequels never happened, and very bad things happened instead.

Summary: following the death of Eilistraee, goddess of the good Drow, a few of her worshippers decide to flee from Faerûn and find a way of reaching another world; Middle Earth, shortly after the end of the Ring War, where King Éomer is courting Princess Lothíriel of Dol Amroth and a vengeful Haradrim warlord carries out a devastating attack. Can the Drow, caught up in a fight they don’t understand, survive in a world where ‘black’ is almost a synonym for ‘evil’?

A couple of months ago, led astray by the Wombat’s Lord of the Rings obsession, I began re-reading all the Éomer/Lothíriel stories at the Pit of Voles and a few other archives. One outcome of that was the Winnie the Pooh/Lord of the Rings crossover story, told in drabble form, posted here recently. The other outcome, alas, had a much more drastic impact upon my fic writing.

I was smitten, once again, with the desire to write my own Éomer/Lothíriel tale. Of course I don’t write straightforward romances, and most of the possible twists have already been covered by [profile] lialathuveril with a skill and flair that would be almost impossible to match. And so what burned its way into my brain, and absolutely refused to get out until I started writing the story, was a crossover scenario. I’m afraid I’ve been writing this when I really should have been working on the WIPs for which readers are waiting; I just couldn’t resist.

Here is Part One: a massive 12,200 words. Rating PG13 bordering on R. Crossover between ‘The Lord of the Rings’ (Book-verse) and the ‘Forgotten Realms’ stories set in the ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ game-world of Faerûn. This is the canon Forgotten Realms, in which ‘Tabula Avatar’ and its sequels never happened, and very bad things happened instead.

Summary: the good Drow goddess Eilistraee killed her brother Vhaeraun and then was slain herself. The headquarters of Eilistraee’s religion was overrun and her worshippers massacred. In the aftermath some of the survivors decide to flee to another world and discover a way of reaching Middle Earth. Meanwhile Éomer of Rohan is carrying on a promising romance with Princess Lothíriel of Dol Amroth; however a vengeful Haradrim warlord plans a devastating attack. The Drow refugees arrive just in time to get involved. Unfortunately in Middle Earth ‘black’ is almost a synonym for ‘evil’…

The recent WriterConUK Event was extremely enjoyable but, since I returned, I’ve found it hard to get back into the mood in which I was writing the Dawn/Sam drabbles and ‘The Witch’s Promise’. I’ve done a little work on ‘Tabula Avatar’ and ‘A Plague of Serpents’ but mainly I’ve been concentrating on the rather morbid Lord of the Rings/Forgotten Realms crossover which has been soaking up altogether too much of my time in the past couple of months. My mind is (like the Wombat’s) stuck a little too firmly in Middle Earth right now for me to write in any other fandom. However at least this morning I managed to regain some levity… and here is the result, born of reading a few too many ‘Tenth Walker’ stories at various archives.

100 words, rating PG.
