It’s been more than 3 weeks since I last posted. I’ve missed too many birthdays to mention here; I’ll do a separate post soon of nothing but birthday wishes. I’ve been busy doing some catching up of unfinished computer games and also, of course, writing.

Here is the next chapter of ‘Tabula Avatar’, a lot later than I’d intended, featuring a guest appearance from two of the most popular characters from the ‘Forgotten Realms’ books. Previous chapters can be found HERE. Rating R; this chapter is 8,750 words.

I haven’t posted in 12 days and have missed a lot of birthdays. Belated Happy Birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] lilashannah, [livejournal.com profile] vagablonde, [livejournal.com profile] fannishnej, [livejournal.com profile] randi2204, and to [livejournal.com profile] elisi.

During my absence I’ve been doing some beta work, playing a bit of ‘Neverwinter Nights 2’, working of course, and also writing and doing research. The next ‘Tabula Avatar’ chapter, featuring a guest appearance from one of the most popular ‘Forgotten Realms’ characters (and no, it’s not Drizzt), required a lot of research and it isn’t finished yet. I have finished the third and final part of the spin-off story about Shar (now given an overall title of ‘The Whole of the Moon’) and here it is.

‘To the Moon and Back’ follows on from The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and Inconstant Moon. Shar is held captive in Selûne’s prison and must be rescued. 5,000 words exactly, rating PG bordering on R.

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] kcarolj65

And thank you to all the people who wished me a happy birthday and to [livejournal.com profile] mythichistorian for the virtual gift.

I’m continuing the ‘interlude’ in ‘Tabula Avatar’ dealing with the doings of the gods of Faerûn. Here’s another instalment following on from The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. Shar is trapped and helpless in Selûne’s prison at the Gates of the Moon. Her boyfriend Vhaeraun is plotting the assassination of his sister Eilistraee. It looks as if Shar’s planned alliance is over almost before it began… 3,500 words, PG.

And to me. Thanks to those who have posted birthday wishes, and to [livejournal.com profile] firefly_124 for the e-card.

I’m celebrating with an indulgence ficlet (now Part 1 of a three-part story titled ‘The Whole of the Moon’). It’s in the ‘Tabula Avatar’ universe, in the near future of the main story, but it doesn’t contain any spoilers as such and doesn’t feature any of the Buffyverse characters – although the events in the ficlet are going to have a colossal effect upon them later. It’s not one of my funny ones. 2,000 words exactly, R for language. The goddess Shar pays a visit to her long-estranged sister. It doesn’t go well…

Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] dessert_first and to [livejournal.com profile] romanyg

Manx Telecom has upgraded my Broadband to 8Mb/s. Yay! I’m celebrating with a silly ficlet. You can blame [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat for this one; she came up with the pairing. It’s not as crazy as some of my ficlets, nor is it as overtly funny, but it’s not to be taken too seriously either. It will mean most to British readers, especially those old enough to remember a certain TV ‘cop show’ that ran between 1977 and 1983 on ITV. They’ve been repeating it recently on one of the more obscure satellite channels, ITV3 or something, but I rarely catch those broadcasts (and, when I do, the episode is always Where The Jungle Ends). Because of this, and because the POV character is Irish, I have left the spellchecker set to ‘English (UK)’. Somebody on my F-list is a big fan of the show, I know, but I’m afraid I can’t remember who that is!

It’s set in the near future of Tabula Avatar (chapter 62 went up yesterday, in case you missed it – being blacklisted by the Sunnydale Herald sucks) but it’s AU; the events depicted in this ficlet will not happen in the main story (or not like this, anyway). Bodhi is successful in her attempt to travel to ‘Spike’s World’ and ends up in Los Angeles. She encounters a character from ‘Angel’ and things develop from there. Rating PG (I would have said more, but if the BBFC can rate ‘The Dark Knight’ as 12A...), exactly 1,800 words. Starts near the end of AtS 1.09, Hero.

Belated Happy Birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] spikes_heart and [livejournal.com profile] peabodyblue. Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] saradane. Happy anniversary (for yesterday) to [livejournal.com profile] pfeifferpack and [livejournal.com profile] blueskink. Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] enigmaticblues on passing her Bar exams.

My apologies for not yet replying to comments on my last two posts; the last 6 nights at work have been so exhausting that I’ve been collapsing into bed as soon as I arrived home and then sleeping for over 9 hours. What little spare waking time I’ve had I’ve spent writing.

Here is the next chapter of ‘Tabula Avatar’. The theme of the previous chapter was ‘sacrifice’; the theme of this one is ‘love’. Next will come ‘travel’ – and then… well, you’ll find out. Previous chapters can be found HERE.

Summary: AU from some point during Tabula Rasa, when the crystal didn’t get broken but instead fell into the hands of The Trio. They inserted the trapped memories into the computer game ‘Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn’ and the Scoobies found themselves in a strange and deadly world. There they have made new friends, and deadly enemies, and have teamed up with Sorkatani the Bhaalspawn and her companions on a quest that took them into deadly peril. Currently they are impersonating drow mercenaries in the Underdark city of Ust Natha. Rating R; this chapter is exactly 7,800 words.

Here is the next chapter of ‘Tabula Avatar’. I really must make some more icons; this chapter is fairly Buffy-centric and I don't have a TA Buffy icon. Previous chapters can be found HERE.

When we left our heroes Buffy and company were impersonating mercenaries in the drow city of Ust Natha. They are disguised as drow (except for Minsc, who is still human, and Xander, who is disguised as a duergar or dark dwarf) and have all adopted aliases. It should be easy enough to see who the aliases refer to but, just in case of confusion, I’ve provided a glossary of the aliases as a footnote. At the very end is a link to a video of the song that Giles performs in this chapter.

8,725 words. Rating R (at least).

Here is the next chapter of ‘Tabula Avatar’, posted hastily because I have to go to work in literally moments. I was going to do some birthday greetings but there is no time! Previous chapters can be found HERE.

I gave in and watched Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog yesterday. You bastard, Joss. You ripped my heart out – again. I’m already ficcing it; one funny one, almost completed, crossover with Buffy Season 8 – and another one that will not be funny. There will be blood – the blood that deserves to be shed. Probably internal organs, too. Payback time.

What made it even worse was that I’d ripped my own heart out the previous day. I’ve had to write the next ‘Tabula Avatar’ chapter in very short bursts because I keep being blinded by tears as I write. I haven’t been this affected by one of my own stories since the final two chapters of ‘The Cloak of Mist’. You’ll see why in a couple of days or so (tears permitting).

In sheer self-preservation I’ve taken a break from the angst to revisit the funny. A ‘Tabula Avatar’ drabble set during the current chapter. Buffy is aggrieved at the way the Drow language spell is cramping her conversational style... 100 words, R for language.

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] merfilly

In the original Dungeons and Dragons, and the First and Second Editions of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, clerics (priests) had the ability to ‘Turn Undead’. That is, they held up their Holy Symbol and the power of their faith would drive back the skeletons, zombies, or whatever. In Third Edition clerics of Evil and Neutral deities have a modified version of the ability called ‘Rebuke Undead’. That makes me think of something entirely different and inspired this drabble set in the ‘Tabula Avatar’ ‘verse. What if Tara hadn't chosen to worship Mielikki but instead had been converted by Viconia and become a priestess of Shar? 100 words, PG, no specific time within the overall story.

Belated happy birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] novichok74 and [livejournal.com profile] diachrony; happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] sistercuervo.

This chapter was hard to write. I had intended it to be entirely from an external perspective, looking at the characters from outside the group, and I tried to do it that way but it didn’t work out. I re-wrote a couple of sections several times before giving up and zooming in on Buffy. The first draft of the chapter included an extra scene, dealing with Yoshimo’s meeting with Shar, but when I opened Word tonight to write that scene I saw that the word count was at exactly 7,500. I took that as an omen and left it there.

Previous chapters can be found HERE; you might need a refresher after the gap of two months since the last chapter.

Belated happy birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] jamalov29, [livejournal.com profile] sp23, and [livejournal.com profile] treiza. On time happy birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] kantayra and [livejournal.com profile] jadeleopard

I fell down on the way to work on Thursday night. I’d hurt my ankle the day before and as I was walking briskly – not running, I was in plenty of time – for the bus that ankle gave way under me. I went down like a felled tree. I skinned the palms of my hands and one knee, bruised the knee as well, and ruined the knee of the trousers that I was wearing. My favourites, even though I hate the colour; they’re the only really comfortable ones that I own. I think they’re beyond repair.

Perhaps because of the fall I’ve felt somewhat out of sorts during these days off. My intended completion of ‘Life, Resumed’ hasn’t been accomplished although I still have one night to go and it is just possible that I’ll get it done. I’ve been writing away but what I’ve produced just doesn’t seem good enough. In fact I’ve felt rather down about my writing altogether. I haven’t really been able to summon up the enthusiasm.

But now I’ve just seen something that has fired me up again. [livejournal.com profile] mythichistorian has created some delightful artwork for Tabula Avatar and it’s brought the smile back to my face. Find it HERE.

The whole month of October passed without any ‘Tabula Avatar’. It was the 28th of September when the previous chapter appeared. Originally I had planned to put up this chapter on ‘Talk Like A Pirate Day’ but, as things turned out, I was so far behind that I didn’t even make that date with the last one. However it’s here now, at long last, and I hope that you’ll like it. A very long chapter, centred on Giles. 9,130 words. Rating R. Previous chapters are HERE.
