It has taken nearly two years but, at long last, ‘Dojo Hard’ is complete. It was inspired by a discussion on [livejournal.com profile] rahirah’s journal about Canon, fanon, and the mutability of character. [livejournal.com profile] rahirah said I tend to think of canon-based AUs as something different from ‘All the characters are ninjas in 17th-century Japan’ fics. [livejournal.com profile] shadowscast mentioned my AU parodies and commented that she saw potential for a fun story along those lines. I decided that a ‘ninjas in 17th-century Japan’ fic is exactly what I would write. At first it was just a 250-word drabble but, as they do, the tale grew in the telling.

Those who don’t read WIPs can read it safely now. Those who have been reading it may well need a refresher – see link to previous chapters below. It’s Spuffy, and also features a strong contender for the strangest ever het pairing – and I speak as someone who has written Joyce/Olaf and Wesley/Glory! All-human (or nearly all!) but there are demons. Gilbert and Sullivan operetta meets Samurai movies, hentai, bad haiku, and blithe disregard for historical reality. Loosely – very loosely – based on BtVS Season 2. Definitely not to be taken seriously but there is character death.

Exactly 3,000 words, rating R. Banner by [livejournal.com profile] spikeshunny. Previous chapters are HERE.

Today has been productive on the writing front as far as my family is concerned. [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat has posted another chapter of ‘Access All Areas’, this time entirely her own work rather than co-written with me, and I have a new chapter of ‘Dojo Hard’ for your non-serious entertainment. It’s been a long time since I last updated this story and I hope that everybody hasn’t forgotten it. The Buffyverse characters presented as if they were in seventeenth-century Japan, in a plot loosely based on BtVS Season 2 and The Mikado, liberally seasoned with scenes from Samurai movies and a soupcon of Hentai. Nearly finished now; this will be the second-last chapter, unless the final one turns out to be too long and I decide to split it. Exactly 2,500 words, rating R. Banner by [livejournal.com profile] spikeshunny. Previous chapters are HERE.

I’m very close to the end of ‘Dojo Hard’ now. Only one or two chapters to go after this one. 3,800 words, rating R. Banner by [livejournal.com profile] spikeshunny. Previous chapters are HERE.

The new Poirot/Xena story hasn’t stopped me from working on ‘Dojo Hard’ and has hardly slowed down my recent furious pace. Here is yet another chapter of the crazy Samurai adventure. 3,250 words, rating R. Banner by [livejournal.com profile] spikeshunny. Previous chapters are HERE.

I’m writing at a furious pace at the moment as I approach the end of ‘Dojo Hard’. Three chapters in four days now. This one is exactly 3,000 words. The first little section is almost entirely dialogue taken from the BtVS S5 episode ‘Out of my Mind’ – slightly twisted, of course. Rating R. Banner by [livejournal.com profile] spikeshunny. Previous chapters are HERE.

I’m pressing on with ‘Dojo Hard’ as it is drawing near to the conclusion. Two chapters in 3 days. This one is exactly 2,000 words. Rating R. Banner by [livejournal.com profile] spikeshunny. Warning; may include traces of marmalade sandwiches. Previous chapters are HERE.

My sleeping patterns are still totally screwed up but I’ve managed to do some writing anyway. I spent some time doing my sections of the new chapter of [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat’s Access All Areas and then I finished off the latest chapter of Dojo Hard.

The Buffyverse rewritten as seventeenth-century Japan, full of samurai, and ninjas, and warrior monks. And, for some reason, marmalade sandwiches. This chapter is exactly 3,000 words. Rating R. Banner and icon by [livejournal.com profile] spikeshunny. Several people who usually comment on every chapter didn’t do so last time, and I discovered this morning that I had forgotten to put it into Memories, and so I think that some of you may have missed it. If you didn’t see the chapter posted on November 12th then check out Chapter 12 before you read this one.

I go back to work tonight. I haven’t managed to get as much writing done while I was off as I had hoped but here is the next chapter of ‘Dojo Hard’. Exactly 2,300 words. Rating R. Banner by [livejournal.com profile] spikeshunny. Previous parts are HERE.

Belated Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] thomasina75 and Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] ladyemorgaine.

I went to the hospital for tests today. They didn’t do any actual tests, just asked questions and made a cursory examination that was no more than the doctor had done, and then they made an appointment for me to go back on November 8th to have a camera inserted somewhere that I won’t mention. I’m feeling much better at the moment and I have completed the next chapter of that piece of Oriental insanity known as ‘Dojo Hard’.

Exactly 2,000 words. Rating R. Previous parts are HERE. Banner by [livejournal.com profile] spikeshunny.

I’m still not well, and last night was pretty hellish for unrelated reasons that I’m not prepared to go into at the moment, but I forced myself to write anyway. I wanted to work on Life, Resumed, which has just been nominated in four categories at the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards (thank you, whoever nominated me!), but I couldn’t get my mind into the right groove. I did some work on the next chapter of Tabula Avatar but mostly I concentrated on ‘Dojo Hard’ and I’ve completed the next chapter of that most insane of all my stories. Here it is. Exactly 2,500 words. Rating R. Previous parts are HERE. Banner and icon by [livejournal.com profile] spikeshunny.

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] confusedkayt

Fic post: this is not a birthday fic, as I don’t think that she is reading this story. It’s the second update in two days to the most insane of my crackfics, ‘Dojo Hard’ – don’t read it if you haven’t read Part 8! Despite what I said yesterday this chapter is perhaps relatively low on the funny; there are important plot points to establish and the parallel canon Buffyverse events really weren’t any fun at all. Hope that you enjoy it anyway. 2,500 words. Rating R. Previous parts are HERE.

By the way, I’ve started posting this story at Twisting the Hellmouth but I wasn’t quite sure how to classify it. I’ve put it under ‘Non-crossovers’, but I wonder if ‘Multiple crossovers’ might be more accurate. Very few crossover characters appear, but some do, and crossover situations certainly do. I’m not sure. Thoughts?

And now for something completely different; here is the next chapter of the totally insane ‘the Buffyverse characters in 17th Century Japan’ story ‘Dojo Hard’. The gorgeous banner is by Chopstickshunny [livejournal.com profile] spikeshunny, adapted from a manip with which she won second place at the [livejournal.com profile] manippers ‘Eastern Challenge’, and I had hoped to put this up in time for her birthday the other day, but it didn’t work out that way. Oh well, it’s here now.

2,500 words. Rating R. Previous parts are HERE and you might well need to refresh your memories; it’s been a while.

A change of pace from ‘Tabula Avatar’; as promised, another chapter of the insane ‘all the Buffyverse characters are in 17th Century Japan’ story ‘Dojo Hard’. It’s been a long time since I updated several of my stories, but I haven’t abandoned any of them. Here is the sixth part of perhaps the craziest of them all: 'Dojo Hard'. All the Buffyverse characters are denizens of 17th-century Japan. 3,500 words. Rating R.

This might be a rather odd time of day to post, but hopefully I'll have a different computer by tonight, and posting it now will save me the hassle of swapping the files over.

The fifth installment of the insanity that is 'Dojo Hard'. All the Buffyverse characters are denizens of 17th-century Japan. Exactly 1,500 words, some of which were written by W S Gilbert, and including a little snatch of a Runrig song. Rating PG-ish. It's got Spike (aka 'Chopstick') and Wesley, and Christmas, and so it could count as my entry for [livejournal.com profile] enigmaticblues' Holiday ficathon. It might have to, I'm running out of time!

I still haven't finished "Angel of the Morning", and the next chapters of "Sunnydale Passions" and "Savage Beauty" are still a little way off too, but as I haven't posted any fic for a while now here is a little more of the raving insanity that is "Dojo Hard". All the characters are inhabitants of 17th-Century Japan. 1,150 words. Previous parts are in Memories HERE, or find them with tags.

Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] marenfic

Yesterday I posted the long-awaited sixth chapter of "Life in Shadow", 9 months after I last updated it. It was a struggle, and I'm still not absolutely happy with it, but at least I've got it back in motion. Maybe the next chapter won't be quite as hard.

Today I celebrated by relaxing with a piece of absolute lunacy. Yes, it's the third installment of that epic of swordplay and bad haiku, "Dojo Hard". Exactly 750 words, some of them Japanese. Love it, hate it, or ignore it, you can't take it seriously ...

I took Shaka to the vet; she gave him an injection of painkillers and anti-inflamatories, said that he should rest and that he had to be kept from doing any jumping down from things for a day, and that he should recover soon. Unfortunately Shaka likes nothing more than to get up to the highest possible point and then jump down from it, we have nowhere we can keep him that doesn't have high places, and so I've been following him round and lifting him down from everywhere and carrying him to where he wants to go next. He has caught on to this so well that he has hardly done any walking at all since then, he just mews to summon me, and I'm not sure how recovered he is. Not completely, I think, but he is on the road to recovery. And I'm carrying him along it.

On the writing front; I'm working on the last chapter of "Angel of the Morning", struggling with it a little because it contains lots of sexual content and that doesn't come as naturally to me as it does to [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat. Even so I should have it finished pretty soon.

I've also returned to "Life in Shadow" and have made a start on the next chapter of that long-dormant work.

Niether of those is ready to post yet, but here is another little piece of "all the characters are ninjas in 17th-Century Japan" lunacy to follow on from Dojo Hard. 600 words this time.

I dropped in on the fascinating discussion on [livejournal.com profile] rahirah’s journal about Canon, fanon, and the mutability of character. And – guess what? – something inspired me. [livejournal.com profile] rahirah said I tend to think of canon-based AUs as something different from "All the characters are ninjas in 17th-century Japan" fics., [livejournal.com profile] shadowscast said I can see potential for a fun, canon-consistent story where gradually these ninjas in 17th-century Japan come to realize they're really California teenagers under a spell... I haven’t given in totally to the plot bunny – I’ve far too many other irons in the fire already – but I did succumb enough to knock off a little extract, a single scene, of such a fic. A two-and-a-half drabble; 250 words. ETA: this is now Part One of a long-running story.
