I've been very lax about birthdays for months now but today there's one I can't possibly miss:

I've been failing to keep up with birthdays recently - pretty much since I came back from WriterCon UK in August, in fact - and I've missed many including those of some very good Friends. Today, however, there is a birthday that I just can't miss.

Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] gillo!

I’ve been totally obsessed with ‘Stargate: SG1’ recently, watching at least 2 hours of it a day in High Definition, and writing fanfic as I watch (I can has multitasking!). As well as the ‘Neverwinter Nights’ crossover I’ve been writing a straight SG1 non-crossover fic, intended to be a two-parter in the classic SG1 style. Here is the first part (which is being very well received at ‘Twisting the Hellmouth’ already).

Spoilers to 8:14 'Full Alert'. Summary: SG1 discover an advanced people who want to be friends - until the Trust's rash actions turn them into implacable enemies. 9,000 words, PG.

Belated Happy Birthdays for yesterday to [livejournal.com profile] agilebrit and [livejournal.com profile] mymatedave.

Here is Part Three of my crossover between Stargate: SG-1 and the D&D PC game Neverwinter Nights. Part One was HERE and Part Two was HERE.

Summary: SG-1 go through the Stargate and find themselves emerging from an Illefarn song portal, north of Neverwinter, shortly after the Wailing Death plague. An encounter with a young ranger girl and her giant companion leads SG-1 into a nightmare world of magic, monsters, and sudden brutal death. This chapter is 9,700 words, rating R for scenes of torture.

This is my 1,000th LiveJournal entry. I intended to commemorate the event with something special, perhaps even a new chapter of ‘Savage Beauty’ – at long last I’ve worked out how to continue, integrating the Icelandic financial crisis into the story, and it won’t be too long before I get back to it – but it wasn’t going to be soon enough and so instead I’m doing another of my ever-popular spelling mistake drabbles. Even stupider than the last! Buffyverse, post series, ignores comics canon, 100 words, and I think that, even though it contains nothing explicit, I’d better rate it NC-17 to be safe.

Here’s a little drabble inspired by a spelling mistake that crops up in far too many fics. Possibly my silliest Buffyverse drabble of all time. PG, 100 words.

It occurred to me recently that the premise of the ‘Terminator’ movies is perhaps the most deeply flawed plot of any SF series. Never mind the time travel, Skynet’s plan totally sucks. Starting a nuclear war to wipe out humanity? Nuclear explosions cause massive electro-magnetic pulses far deadlier to computers than the explosions and fall-out are to humans. Yes, the humans would die, but Skynet would die first. Fail.

Despite the ludicrous premise the first two films were extremely entertaining. Shame about T3. I never watched the Sarah Connor Chronicles but I recently read a Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles/BtVS crossover, by Dave Turner, at ‘Twisting the Hellmouth’; it was the loose inspiration for this rather silly non-crossover (although knowledge of T1 & T2 helps) mini-ficlet that I knocked off this morning. BtVS Season 5; set three or four months prior to I Was Made To Love You, but makes use of Season 8 material. 400 words, PG.

New BtVS/Stargate SG-1 crossover story – one-off, complete.

Here is another story in my series Where Did Olaf Go?, originally inspired by a challenge at ‘Twisting the Hellmouth’, in which Willow misses her intended target when she banishes Olaf the Troll from Sunnydale and sends him into another fandom. This time it’s Stargate SG-1. Summary: When Willow’s misfiring spell sends Olaf not to the Land of the Trolls but to the Asgard this leads, inevitably, to battle, plunder, and merry sport among the stars. How will the Goa’uld cope with the primal force that is Olaf?

7,700 words. Rating R for sex and moderate violence.

New fic: Stargate SG-1/Neverwinter Nights crossover

Sky has been showing re-runs of Stargate: SG-1 recently and it has inspired me to write fic; a crossover with the D&D PC game Neverwinter Nights. It’s in the ‘Tabula Avatar’ universe but 2 years after that story (3 years before ‘A Plague of Serpents) and 1,200 miles to the north. In ‘Stargate: SG1’ continuity it would come some time after Season 5 episode 14 ‘48 Hours’. This doesn't tally with a strict comparison of the broadcast dates of the two shows so I'm assuming that Stargate: SG-1 is set slightly in the future and that ‘48 Hours’ takes place, not in March 2002 when it was first broadcast, but actually in March 2004.

This part is 6,000 words, rating PG, but the following parts will be R for violence so there isn’t much point in reading this one if you don’t read R-rated stories.

Summary: SG-1 go through the Stargate and find themselves emerging from an Illefarn song portal, north of Neverwinter, shortly after the Wailing Death plague. An encounter with a young ranger girl and her giant companion leads SG-1 into a nightmare world of magic, monsters, and sudden and brutal death.

Here is a birthday fic for Quin. I would have done an Ancient Roman one for you, but nothing funny happened on the way to the forum; instead my mind went back to an earlier age and the Siege of Troy. BtVS/Doctor Who/The Illiad crossover, 1,000 words, PG.

I had hoped to have a birthday fic done, a sequel to my BtVS/Ringworld crossover The Ringworld Slayer, but, because I’ve been working on ‘Tabula Avatar’, I haven’t managed it. All I have is a 100-word drabble teaser for that forthcoming story.
