I've always been under the impression that I wasn't likely to get plagiarised because my style is so distinctive that nobody would dare.

I was wrong. [livejournal.com profile] mommanerd found that her story "Stay Away From Randy" was appearing on a blog credited to "Spikes Fics" and posted about it. I took a look at the site, spotted a couple of things that I recognised as being well-known stories but that I couldn't immediately put an author to, and made a comment. [livejournal.com profile] amybnnyc then spotted "Sunnydale Passions" there and replied to my comment to inform me. I went back, found it at http://www.bloopdiary.com/viewentry.php?id=43796&num=50 - my first chapter, complete and unaltered, simply copied out with "Spike Fics" showing as the author. The author's notes were copied, too, except that the reference to the story being inspired by a comment on [livejournal.com profile] rahirah's LiveJournal was changed to replace [livejournal.com profile] rahirah with a generic "A friend" and the "LiveJournal comment" replaced with "I was having a conversation".

There is a Warning inserted - full of spelling mistakes and capitalisation errors!

A moment later I found my drabble "Prophecy Guy" at http://www.bloopdiary.com/viewentry.php?id=43796&num=51

They're not easy to spot, actually; for some reason those entries, and other items around the same time, use black text on a black background and I had to Select All to be able to see and read them. Presumably because they were copied and pasted from somewhere using black text and the thief forgot to change the text colour.

This site/blog, http://www.bloopdiary.com/viewfront.php?id=43796 , appears to be full of plagiarised fics stolen from numerous authors and icons by Mr Monkeybottoms that I strongly suspect were taken without permission. Maybe even hotlinked.

I've tried to e-mail this "Spike Fics", who also seems to use the name "SpikesBaby", but the blog is built so that only members who have logged in can send e-mails. I have, therefore, put up demands in her/his comments that the fics be removed.

I'll take it to [livejournal.com profile] stop_plagiarism if nothing happens as a result of that.

Why the F*** do people do that sort of thing? What's the point of getting praise and feedback for something that you didn't do?

Oh well, back to my Xander in Africa story - I haven't got time for this shit right now.

ETA: I've just found [livejournal.com profile] enigmatic_blue's "All My Heart This Night Rejoicing" there at http://www.bloopdiary.com/viewentry.php?id=43796&num=13 To add insult to injury, there is an "Author's Note" at the end of the first chapter saying "So what ya guys think??? Want more of this story or no?"

I’m in need of some relief after the stress of the plagiarism affair and so I’m going to post the first half of the story that I'm doing for [livejournal.com profile] ludditerobot’s Scatterlings and Orphanages “Africander” ficathon now rather than later. The due date is the nineteenth, but I’m working then and “early posting is encouraged”. The second half should have been finished tonight but the ramifications of the plagiarism have cost me three damn hours of writing time and I’m not going to make it. It may have to wait until my next 5 nights off work, around the 22nd.

The ficathon is for post-NFA Xander-in-Africa stories, covering every single one of Africa’s 55 countries. My country is Malawi, where I lived for six years, and I’ve stood on every inch of ground that Xander stands on in the story. This part is 3,250 words, rating PG or so, although that might change in part two. Don’t expect my usual overt humour, by the way. This isn’t a comedy.

Summary; The time is now, January 2006, and Xander is staying at a camp site on Zomba Plateau in Malawi and taking in the view. There’s a little more to his trip than rest and recreation, however …
