Words in the Heroes' Tongue

It has taken nearly two years but, at long last, ‘Dojo Hard’ is complete. It was inspired by a discussion on rahirah’s journal about Canon, fanon, and the mutability of character. rahirah said I tend to think of canon-based AUs as something different from ‘All the characters are ninjas in 17th-century Japan’ fics. shadowscast mentioned my AU parodies and commented that she saw potential for a fun story along those lines. I decided that a ‘ninjas in 17th-century Japan’ fic is exactly what I would write. At first it was just a 250-word drabble but, as they do, the tale grew in the telling.

Those who don’t read WIPs can read it safely now. Those who have been reading it may well need a refresher – see link to previous chapters below. It’s Spuffy, and also features a strong contender for the strangest ever het pairing – and I speak as someone who has written Joyce/Olaf and Wesley/Glory! All-human (or nearly all!) but there are demons. Gilbert and Sullivan operetta meets Samurai movies, hentai, bad haiku, and blithe disregard for historical reality. Loosely – very loosely – based on BtVS Season 2. Definitely not to be taken seriously but there is character death.

Today has been productive on the writing front as far as my family is concerned. curiouswombat has posted another chapter of ‘Access All Areas’, this time entirely her own work rather than co-written with me, and I have a new chapter of ‘Dojo Hard’ for your non-serious entertainment. It’s been a long time since I last updated this story and I hope that everybody hasn’t forgotten it. The Buffyverse characters presented as if they were in seventeenth-century Japan, in a plot loosely based on BtVS Season 2 and The Mikado, liberally seasoned with scenes from Samurai movies and a soupcon of Hentai. My sleeping patterns are still totally screwed up but I’ve managed to do some writing anyway. I spent some time doing my sections of the new chapter of curiouswombat’s Access All Areas and then I finished off the latest chapter of Dojo Hard.

The Buffyverse rewritten as seventeenth-century Japan, full of samurai, and ninjas, and warrior monks. And, for some reason, marmalade sandwiches. This chapter is exactly 3,000 words. Rating R. I went to the hospital for tests today. They didn’t do any actual tests, just asked questions and made a cursory examination that was no more than the doctor had done, and then they made an appointment for me to go back on November 8th to have a camera inserted somewhere that I won’t mention. I’m feeling much better at the moment and I have completed the next chapter of that piece of Oriental insanity known as ‘Dojo Hard’.
