Here is a Ukranian symphonic metal song from 2015 which is very apt right now.

The lyrics are:

Million days and nights before
When only tarpans ruled this world
Our nomad fathers took it in their hands

Warm from coddling sun by day
Cooled by sea breezing by nights
It is loved so hard that our heart just lights

No one can take our land from us, it is our home
And no one can decide for us, leave us all alone
We will hold arms to death until the last of us stands still
We will destroy and crush all foes, we’ll shout 'Alga!' and kill!

Violet lilacs fill the woods,
Meadows full of grass and fruits
Mountain peaks of limestone pierce the blue-blue sky

Stormy waves crash on the rocks,
Grapes entwine the antic scree
How can one not love this land of sun and sea?

How dare you godless bastards step on my land?
How dare you touch my daughters and sons?
This will be your last steps unless you turn,
Put your two-headed eagle in your ass and run!

Henrik Ibsen, Morten Harket, Edvard Munch, Edvard Grieg, Trygve Lie, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Kjetil Aamodt, Sonja Henie, Trude Mostue, Fridtjof Nansen, Gro Harlem Brundtland, Erna Solberg… Can you hear me Erna Solberg? Your girls took a hell of a beating! Your girls took a hell of a beating!

Go Lionesses!

...fanfic writers who describe characters as 'viscous killers' or who refer to someone smiling a 'viscous smile' would be thrown into a swimming pool filled with treacle.

And those who refer to 'lightening bolts' would be pumped full of helium.

Did anyone else watch 'Blue Planet 2', see the 'Bobbit' metre-long carnivorous worm, and think "Even that would be a better mother than Molly Weasley"? The episode was full of creatures more intelligent than Arthur Weasley, too, and I don't just mean the cuttlefish and the octopus; even the microscopic algae inside the coral polyps would have superior intelligence and a greater understanding of Muggle technology.

any fanfic author who uses 'hoard' to describe a large throng of people, or 'horde' to describe a store of money or treasure, would be sentenced to be pursued across the Mongolian steppe by thirty thousand Mongol warriors armed with composite bows.

...I would make it a death penalty offence to write 'with baited breath' in a fanfic.

2016 has been a horrible year. Brexit. Trump. And the death list of Bowie, Prince, Keith Emerson, Greg Lake, Leonard Cohen, Glen Frey, Rick Parfitt, Christina Grimmie, Chyna, Alan Rickman, Victoria Wood, Gene Wilder, Kenny Baker, Robert Vaughn... I have my fingers crossed for Carrie Fisher.

Music this year has hit a new low; other than Passenger and Christine and the Queens everything I've heard has been appalling. And Louise didn't win Strictly.

But at long last there has been something to smile about. The Last Dragonslayer on Sky 1. Very much in the same style as their adaptations of Terry Pratchett's works but better (and blessedly free of David Jason). Jennifer Strange is my new heroine.

Was the Trump campaign speechwriter who wrote the speech for Melania Trump and 'borrowed' extensively from Michelle Obama and Rick Astley...

...Cassie Claire/Cassandra Clare?

Hergé, René Magritte, Thierry Boutsen, Adolphe Sax, Jacky Ickx, Eddy Merckx, Kim Huybrechts, Jean-Claude Van Damme… your boys took one Hell of a beating! Can you hear me, King Philippe? Your boys took one Hell of a beating!

The Wombat lived in Wales as a child – her sister was actually born there – and the heroine of the story I'm currently posting at the Pit of Voles is Welsh, and so we are claiming honorary Welsh status tonight.

I propose another UK referendum on a different but related subject.

"Should all Old Etonians be rounded up and exiled to Ascension Island? Yes/No."

The Isle of Man is not part of the UK, nor even of the EU, and I didn't get a vote in the referendum. So I'm not going to comment about the result except to say one thing.

This conclusively proves that David Cameron is the stupidest person ever to have been UK Prime Minister.

Thoughts on recent TV adverts: I love the Paddy Power ‘Scotland’ advert that re-writes ‘Vindaloo’ from a Scottish perspective. And I hate the ‘Haribo’ adverts; I hope the ‘happy world of Haribo’ is struck by an asteroid, or attacked by the Goa’uld, or by the aliens from ‘Independence Day’.

Here is the next chapter of my award-winning BtVS/Baldur’s Gate 2 crossover ‘Tabula Avatar’, which is getting close to the end; I estimate there will be only 2 further chapters after this one. I said the same thing last time I posted but I underestimated. The long delay in posting is mainly due to the release of the Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition expansion ‘Siege of Dragonspear’; it makes significant changes to the gameplay and I’ve not only played it more than once but have replayed the entire saga, from beginning to end, as more than one character class and with a variety of companions. Also I’ve been writing a story (‘Divakiin!’) that I haven’t posted on LiveJournal because it has chapter lengths that are longer than LJ’s posting limit.

Previous chapters can be found HERE. Rating R; this chapter is 8,000 words.

Absolutely gutted by the results of the Eurovision semi-final tonight. It was the best semi ever, with several entries that were really excellent by Eurovision standards, and only a few dreadful ones. And all the dreadful ones went through to the final and most of the excellent ones didn't.

How could they not have voted for the Belarussian elf and his wolves? After Newcastle United being relegated I was looking to Eurovision to cheer me up. No such luck.

I haven’t mentioned this before but the ‘Tabula Avatar’ series won 2 awards in Round 31 (April-July 2015) of the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards. I don’t know who nominated me but, if it was anyone on LiveJournal, thank you.

NEWSFLASH! I'VE FINISHED A STORY! And I'm posting this chapter only 3 days after I posted the previous one.

This is the conclusion of my ‘Tabula Avatar’ crossover universe story The King of Elfland’s Daughter, sequel to Debt of Blood. An NCIS/Stargate SG-1/Forgotten Realms crossover.

Summary: Gibbs and the NCIS Major Case Response Team investigate the brutal murder of a Marine and the trail leads them first to a Congolese immigrant named Cierre LuaLua, working for a secret Air Force project, and then to a deadly, seemingly invulnerable, assassin who might be a literal devil. Chapter 11 is 6,900 words, rating 15.

Here, at last, is Part 10 of my ‘Tabula Avatar’ crossover universe story The King of Elfland’s Daughter, sequel to Debt of Blood.

Chapter 10 is 6,075 words, rating 15.

Sorry for the extremely long delay in posting this; I went through a long period of feeling rather flat and not being able to write more than a hundred or so words a day, exacerbated by my dotting back and forward between this story, ‘Tabula Avatar’, and ‘The Dark Companion’. However a couple of weeks ago I got back into gear and made rapid progress. In fact I wrote so much that the chapter went way over the length of the previous chapters, and even over the LiveJournal maximum posting length, and so I’ve split it into two. I’ll post the next chapter, which will be the Conclusion, after the weekend.

I was reading The Guardian online and saw an article about the new advert for BIC For Her pens and if it is misogynist and sexist. The article itself turned out not to be interesting but one of the comments pointed to the Amazon page for the pens and the customer reviews.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/BiC-For-Her-Medium-Ballpoint/dp/B004FTGJUW?

The 'Customer Questions and Answers' are extremely funny but some of the reviews are... sublime.
