New crossover fic - Tabula Avatar Chapter 1

This is a pure indulgence fic, and a return to my roots. My first fandom for which I ever wrote (apart from Doctor Who as a child, writing for my own eyes only) was Baldur’s Gate; the computer game that was the first to bring true role-playing to the PC. It was a wonderful game; the sequel, ‘Baldur’s Gate II; Shadows of Amn’ was beyond wonderful.

I’ve wanted to write a crossover with Buffy for ages – if only so that I can post it at ‘Twisting the Hellmouth’ – but it’s only in the last couple of months that I came up with a scenario that made such a crossover logical, and I’ve sat on the outline since then while I worked on other projects. Today, however, the plot bunny got loose, and I’ve spent the last 12 hours writing furiously. This is the result. Chapter One of what will probably be a fairly long story. It's full of BG2 spoilers, by the way, but I would guess that everyone who would want to play the game has already played it by now. Except for rahirah, who is playing it right now, but I'll make sure that I stay behind her progress. I’ll get back to one of my WIPs shortly, don’t worry.

This chapter is 6,150 words. The rating is PG at most so far, but I intend it to reach R later. It starts during Tabula Rasa and goes AU immediately. kallysten and kantayra’s excellent story Tabula Rasa Ad Aeternum could almost be the other half of this story, as you will see. The crystal doesn’t get broken in ‘Tabula Rasa’; something else happens to it instead …
