happy birthday to Melissa aka [livejournal.com profile] appomattoxco

Meme: gacked from loads of people over the years but mainly from [livejournal.com profile] booster17

20 songs from my Musicmatch Jukebox random play list. Guess the song and the artist - Googling spoils the fun. I'll strike them through when guessed. Most easy, a couple hard, one bloody obvious. In three examples the track is not being performed by the original artist but I will accept the original - in one case nobody would ever guess the cover performer even though it is that performance that has been a massive influence on one of my fics.

01) When I wake up, well I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you. The Proclaimers, "500 Miles", identified by [livejournal.com profile] sambony. Before that [livejournal.com profile] ringthebells and [livejournal.com profile] ravenwings_7 had named the song but not the artist.

02) Harry Truman Doris Day, Red China Johnny Ray, South Pacific Walter Winchell Joe DiMaggio. "We Didn't Start The Fire", Billy Joel, identified by [livejournal.com profile] spikespetslayer.

03)We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind, 'cause your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance, well they're no friends of mine. Men Without Hats, "Safety Dance", identified by [livejournal.com profile] ravenwings_7

04) 'Look out the left' the captain said, 'the lights down there that's where we left'.

05) Old pirates yes they rob I, sold I to the merchant ship, minutes after they took I from the bottomless pit. Bob Marley's "Redemption Song", identified by [livejournal.com profile] ravenwings_7, although the version I was listening to was actually the Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer one.

06) Big wheels keep on turning, carry me home to see my kin, singing songs about the Southlands, I miss Alabamy once again. "Sweet Home Alabama", originally recorded by Lynyrd Skynyrd, identified by [livejournal.com profile] spikespetslayer. The version I was listening to was by D&D Accoustic, one man who plays guitar and another who sings, and it was hearing them that convinced me that Giles' performances in 'Tabula Avatar' would have enough impact with just one guitar to charm the population of Athkatla. I listened to it over and over again when I was writing the scene in which he plays and Tara sings. [livejournal.com profile] ringthebells was correct about the song but couldn't remember Lynyrd Skynyrd.

07) Hush little baby don't cry like that, God's gonna buy you a Cadillac. The Hooters, "Satellite". Identified by [livejournal.com profile] booster17.

08) As I was going over the Cork and Kerry Mountains, I came on Captain Farrell and his money he was counting. Thin Lizzy, "Whiskey in the Jar", identified by [livejournal.com profile] bogwitch.

09) You're not ready for the world outside. Tony Head aka Anthony Stewart Head as Giles in "Once More With Feeling", "Standing", identified by [livejournal.com profile] kallysten.

10) I've been driving all night my hands wet on the wheel. Golden Earring, "Radar Love". [livejournal.com profile] ravenwings_7 knew the song but not the artist, fully identified by [livejournal.com profile] gamiila.

11) Calling, distorting, reach the ends for you, burn a hole right through.

12) Songs when the truth are all dedicated to you, In this invisible world I choose to live in

13) Every face, Even the one you saw yesterday, It looks different today, 'Cos everything's changed since yesterday, In every possible way.

14) Love in, love out, find the feeling, Scream in, scream out, time for healing.

15) See the stone set in your eyes, See the thorn twist in your side, I will wait for you. U2, "With Or Without You", identified by [livejournal.com profile] sambony.

16) If God had a name, what would it be, and would you call it to his face, if you were faced with him in all his glory? [livejournal.com profile] ringthebells knew the song name but not the artist; [livejournal.com profile] merfilly did the full identification.

17) In this proud land we grew up strong, we were wanted all along, I was taught to fight, taught to win, I never thought I could fail. Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush, "Don't Give Up", identified by [livejournal.com profile] gamiila.

18) Oh the rain came down on a cold new town as he carried you away, from your father's hand that always seemed like a fist reaching out to make you pay.

19) To every broken heart in here, Love was once a part, but now it's disappeared.

20) Maybe when the room is empty, Maybe when the bottle's full, Maybe when the door gets broke down, Love can break in. Something Corporate, "Punk Rock Princess", identified by [livejournal.com profile] confusedkayt.
