After a long hiatus I am returning to my ‘Queequeg’ series of Angel: The Series/Moby Dick crossover drabbles, in which the Powers That Be send Queequeg the Harpooner to be Angel’s seer instead of Doyle. Although all the previous drabbles have been light-hearted there is a dramatic change of mood in these. Previous instalments are HERE. 2 x 100 words, PG-13.
The harpoon blade was so sharp that Queequeg shaved with it. He slashed it across Darla’s belly and she uttered a piercing shriek. Her hand clamped down on Angel’s with bone-crushing force.
Queequeg pulled out the baby from the gaping wound. “It’s a boy,” he announced.
“A boy? I have a son,” Angel gasped. A smile of radiant happiness began to spread across his face. Queequeg, Wesley, Cordelia, and Harmony all simultaneously kicked him in the shins. “Ow!”
“You looked just a little too happy,” Cordelia explained.
“My baby,” said Darla, reaching out for the infant. “I’ll call him… MacDuff.”
“I still love him,” Darla said. She cuddled the baby to her breast. “It wasn’t just sharing his soul. I love him.”
“Let’s get him inside,” Fred suggested.
Darla nodded. “Help me up,” she ordered. Angel took the baby from her and Queequeg helped Darla to her feet.
“We should do something about that wound,” Harmony said. She bent to pick up a cushion from the car and Holtz’s first crossbow bolt hit her in the shoulder instead of the chest.
The second pierced Darla’s heart.
The baby cried as his mother’s dust was washed away by the driving rain.
From his mother’s womb…

Excellent work.
