We aren't past the end of S6. Less time has elapsed than you think. The game quests follow each other in dizzying succession and, although they aren't really time-critical, they are set up to seem as if they are so the characters are going at them fairly quickly (especially as they have split to do two quests simultaneously more than once). Warren's first encounter with Katrina was the TA-verse "Dead Things", and this is Buffy's birthday party that was "Older and Far Away" on the show (but a far livelier and happier version, of course).
I've never been convinced that the First's rise had anything to do with the 'split in the Slayer line', regardless of what Beljoxa's Eye said. When it first appeared it targeted the Souled Vampire Angel; it seems logical that when Spike actively sought out his soul this would trigger a response from the first. Randy has no soul, although he acts as if he has one, and won't be seeking one out.
The First Evil might, therefore, not appear in Sunnydale or seek out Potentials at all.
Or it might arrive to face an enemy the like of which it could never have foreseen...
