My freaking Guestbook got hacked again.

At least this time it wasn't racist hate banners, just freaking annoying adverts for websites, but the bastards hacked in to the Guestbook Admin password so I couldn't delete what they'd put in, so I deleted the whole frigging Guestbook altogether. No-one had signed it since September anyway. Still, there were some nice comments there, and wiping it HURT. And I had to go through the whole site deleting all the links to the Guestbook, and that's taken all afternoon when I could have been WRITING!

All hackers should be taken to the middle of the Saharah desert, 300 miles from the nearest water, and shot through both sodding kneecaps and left to die horribly of thirst and heat exhaustion.

On a more pleasant topic, thanks to everyone who has left comments about "Something Blue Movie" - I'm not replying individually because of the brevity, any replies I could make would be longer than the comments and probably longer than the Drabble. I'll just say, that was the clean version! There is now a (slightly) dirtier version in the Comments of this post.

And I might write a Sequel!

And "Hi" to recent new Friends, [livejournal.com profile] avidrosette, [livejournal.com profile] bedawyn, [livejournal.com profile] ludditerobot, [livejournal.com profile] keswindhover, [livejournal.com profile] shadowscast, [livejournal.com profile] elisi, and [livejournal.com profile] cyberwitch13666. And any of the earlier ones I missed at the time.

While I'm on: pimp time. [livejournal.com profile] enigmaticblues' latest WIP "All The Graces Of The Dawn" is phenomenally good. Almost everything she does is superb anyway, but she's getting better and better and is moving into the realms of the supreme. It's the sequel to "The Great Advantage Of Being Alive" (also wonderful). Find them both HERE

Sorry to hear about your guestbook! That's a real shame.

Next time, instead of deleting the links to the guestbook, just put up a dummy page up where it used to be, so that when people click on the link they see a message from you explaining the guestbook is temporarily down, so to please email you directly. (Advice for if you ever decide to put up another guestbook.)

I just read your drabble - hee, where's the NC-17 version? I'd love to see that, as well as the sequel ;-)

Not exactly NC-17, just a little dirtier. Still exactly 100 words.

Something Bluer

“Pain? What pain?” Willow asked.

“Observe!” D’Hoffryn commanded, and with a wave of his hand he opened a dimensional viewing portal. His demon minions gathered round to peer over Willow’s shoulder.

Willow gazed through it, and saw her friends in a crypt battling against a horde of demons. Buffy was being choked by one demon. Spike and Xander were trying to barricade the door. Anya was chanting, attempting to summon D’Hoffryn. The defenders were weakening and the demons gaining the upper hand.

Willow’s mouth opened wide with surprise and horror. “Fuck me!” she exclaimed, eyes flashing blue.

So they did.

Thanks for the tip about what I should have done with the Guestbook, it would have saved me ages. However, now it's gone I'm going to leave it gone. There are e-mail links for Feedback all over the site, I'll stick to those in future. The Guestbook is just not worth the hassle.

Hee, thanks for sharing the "bluer" version! It's just too bad you weren't able to save the comments that were left in your guestbook before deleting it, but I can see why you'd just as soon want to avoid the hassle of trying again.

I have a funny hacker story.
Once upon a time when I was really really new to computers a hacker decided to attack my computer.
They hacked into all my files and for some strange reason changed all the fonts so they were "ghoulie" then some how they managed to hack into my msn program and change it so all incomming messages were suddenly in ITALIAN, YES ITALIAN.
Then they started sending me really weird freaky messages like.
"Heather you're smart but not smart enough, dont try to find me out because I'm dangerous" honestly it was terrifying.

This was annoying, but not scary. The Guestbook was set to e-mail the posters if the Admin (me) replied to their entries, so the hackers were basically using my Guestbook to spam people. They'd avoided my own entry, presumably in case it tipped me off, and hadn't worked through the whole list, but they were obviously in the process of doing so. They'd even put the spam messages to a Swedish feedbacker in Swedish!

Lily-livered liberal! ;0)

I sympathise about the hacking though. Miserable shower!

Ugh. Sorry you had to deal with that. It's a jungle out there; a friend of mine recently installed Linux on a server and forgot to turn some security stuff on and someone was in the machine within 20 minutes.

My own PC has got firewalls, anti-trojans, spyware blockers, the lot; but my web host obviously has a few loopholes. And, although they are very good in many respects, complaining to them about anything is extremely hard. Their complaints department seems to be in a dark basement behind a door marked "beware of the leopard" and their helpline is routed to Bangalore via a satellite orbiting one of the moons of Jupiter, with a six hour lag, at a charge of a pound a second. Or so it seems, anyway.

Makes me think about the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. It had the notice for when Arthur Dents house was to be destroyed taped underneath a drawer in a locked file cabinet in an office at the bottom of a set of ruined stairs. The notice was for when the Vogons would destroy the Earth was similarly inacessible as it was in a different galaxy.

And it was behind a door marked "Beware of the leopard", hence my imagery.

I'm the sort of hoopy frood who always knows where my towel is. Personally, I blame the mice.

I got a cat that can make those mice regret ever creating this planet.

My favorite Hitchiker's bit. You know how to fly? Throw yourself at the ground and miss.

Ah yes. And they're only open every sixth Tuesday of the month from 3:00 to 3:04am. I too have had this "customer" "service" experience.

Hm. For once I have something constructive to add to your journal: That was not a hacker, but a cracker and a troll aka (most likely) a 12yo kid and wannabe mastermind doing homework.

Does not hurt less though. Any backup?

It was a Spammer. The Guestbook was set up to e-mail the people who signed it if I replied to their posts; the spammer who had hacked in had Replied as if he/she/it was me, with adverts for "web developer tools", so that the nice people who'd left feedback would get e-mails apparently from me containing the adverts, and the links to the spammer's dodgy site were of course left up on my Guestbook too as if I was endorsing them.

One of the Visitors was from Sweden and the spammer had even put the adverts in that Reply in Swedish!

I didn't lose any data; just the nice feedback, and as they'd changed my Admin password to the Guestbook and locked me out of my own freaking Guestbook I couldn't do anything but delete the whole thing.

Yes, I was sloppy with the terminology, I do know that stricly speaking hackers are not malicious, but I was too bloody furious for fine distinctions. I was in something of a "kill them all and let God sort them out" mood.

Oh, I'm so sorry about your guestbook. Why the freak do they keep targeting you anyway? I swear, if I get my hands on them, they're gonna be sorry.

And I'm blushing now. Thanks so much for your praise! It's so nice to hear something like that. You're a sweetheart. :)

I think there must be a vulnerability in the Guestbook that my web host provides; also my site gets a lot of traffic, and there are a lot of links to it around. Plus, I turn up on Google searches for some very strange things. I must seem like an attractive target. So I've given up on the Guestbook altogether.

My praise of you is, of course, eminently deserved. You deserve more exposure.

Especially now you've got the tattoo. ;-)

LMHO...yeah, I definitely need more exposure with that tat. :)

Oh, and 17 and 18 are up on my site. (Well, the link to 17 is available, and you can get to 18 by clicking the next link.) Just thought you might want to know.

I was halfway through 18 when the incoming e-mail flag came up from this comment; I had seen your post on your LJ and rushed straight to your site.

You nearly gave me a heart attack at the end of 17. Wicked Jerusha!
