I knew when I started posting my stories on fanfic.net that it would probably depress me and I was right. It has done.

Well, did your summary begin "Buffy and Spike are in high school"? Because if not, that could be the problem. [/sarcasm]

You might have better luck pimping yourself somewhere like the TWoP Buffy fanfic thread (http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=721445&pid=2350030&st=2340&#entry2350030), where the readers are more discerning and more interested in stories that aren't stereotypical shippy romance.

I'd only write a story about Buffy and Spike in High School if it was a couple of days before the Feast of St Vigeous, Buffy was manning the lemonade stand, and Spike got impatient.

I don't want to turn up in a forum out of the blue and start pimping myself. It seems a little ill-mannered somehow.

I think in a lot of forums (fora?) it would be, but it's SOP in that thread for writers to introduce themselves and provide links to their stories, or to announce fic updates, so I don't think it would come off as ill-mannered at all. I may be biased in thinking it's a good resource, but it's what got me started reading fanfic. :)
