Did anyone else watch 'Blue Planet 2', see the 'Bobbit' metre-long carnivorous worm, and think "Even that would be a better mother than Molly Weasley"? The episode was full of creatures more intelligent than Arthur Weasley, too, and I don't just mean the cuttlefish and the octopus; even the microscopic algae inside the coral polyps would have superior intelligence and a greater understanding of Muggle technology.

I've been doing research for a Harry Potter fic I'm thinking of writing. It will be Bellatrix-centric and incorporate elements from 'The Cursed Child'.

There's definitely something odd about Arthur's job - it's a position tailor-made for a muggle-born wizard, WTF did they appoint someone with little or no experience of the Muggle world.

Re Molly, she's definitely an over-protective shrew, but there have been worse mothers.

There are worse human mothers than Molly Weasley - most of them serving life imprisonment or confined to secure mental institutions - but few creatures in the animal world even come close.

I'm way behind, so just seeing this and wondering what makes Molly Weasley a bad mother? (I've seen the movies but have only read the first book and that was several years ago, so it's a genuine question. I can't remember much about her except she was kind to Harry and knit sweaters for everyone at Christmas.)

Ron's (non-existent) table manners, for a start; I haven't seen the movies but I would guess that they didn't portray them on screen because it would have made the audiences feel sick. Her Howlers to her children - embarassing them in front of the whole school. Her despicable treatment of Sirius Black IN HIS OWN HOUSE. Her attitude to Fleur. The way her children, as soon as they reached an age where they could leave home, buggered off to live as far away from her as possible (except for Ron the Walking Stomach). The way Arthur retreated to his shed, away from her, at every possible opportunity (although I feel that moron deserved everything he got).

And, frankly, her claiming Harry as 'one of my children to me' on the basis of such a short acquaintance was positively creepy.

In my personal head-canon (which I may turn into a fic soon, provisionally to be titled 'Young, Gifted, and Black') Bellatrix went insane because of being bullied at school by Molly Prewett.

Now I understand! (I knew I'd missed out on things by only watching the movies, but it seems they perhaps gave Molly Weasley a personality upgrade as well.)
