New BtVS/Stargate SG-1 crossover story – one-off, complete.
Here is another story in my series Where Did Olaf Go?, originally inspired by a challenge at ‘Twisting the Hellmouth’, in which Willow misses her intended target when she banishes Olaf the Troll from Sunnydale and sends him into another fandom. This time it’s Stargate SG-1. Summary: When Willow’s misfiring spell sends Olaf not to the Land of the Trolls but to the Asgard this leads, inevitably, to battle, plunder, and merry sport among the stars. How will the Goa’uld cope with the primal force that is Olaf?

7,700 words. Rating R for sex and moderate violence.

Happy Birthday to gillo

Here is a birthday ficlet. 1,500 words, rating R, and it’s a crossover I’ve never done before; BtVS (the Season 8 comics, alas) and Tomb Raider (specifically, Tomb Raider: Underworld). Slight spoilers for the comic’s arc that has just ended in issue 19 (if anyone gives a toss any longer). I tried to find a crossover more appropriate to your interests but nothing came to mind; suddenly, in the early hours of the morning, this came out of nowhere. Hope you like it.

Here is another of my ‘Where did Olaf go?’ ficlets; the third in four days. This one isn’t connected to the other two, Thomas and the Troublesome Troll and Olaf at the TT Races. As usual, it assumes that Willow’s spell to banish Olaf sent him to another fandom instead of to the Land of the Trolls; this time to Terry Pratchett’s ‘Discworld’, although not to Ankh-Morpork or Lancre where most of the books are set. A completely different continent. ‘Discworld’ is full of ‘crossover’ elements anyway, referencing hundreds of other stories, and this ficlet follows that tradition by containing a 'crossover within a crossover'. I might do a sequel to this eventually but for now I’m going to return to my WIPs. 1,000 words, PG.

This story is primarily for gillo, who responded to a throwaway line in my last ficlet by saying “And I need to see Olaf at the TT races now”. Her comment has inspired what might well be my strangest crossover ever. Another one of the ‘Where Did Olaf Go?’ series, in which Willow’s spell to banish Olaf to the Land of the Trolls misfires and sends him to another fandom. It follows on from Thomas and the Troublesome Troll, in which Olaf battled Thomas the Tank Engine. On leaving the Island of Sodor Olaf travels to the Isle of Man to see the 1935 TT motorcycle races. Crossover with the 1935 George Formby film No Limit. Everyone on the Isle of Man has seen the film several times – it’s compulsory – but it will probably mean nothing at all to Americans or even to British readers who don’t watch old movies on TV. George Formby, the Lancashire comic singer and performer upon the banjo-ukulele, was Britain’s biggest star in the years immediately before and during the Second World War. Personally I could never see why. ‘No Limit’ was mainly filmed on location in the Isle of Man and included footage of the real 1935 TT. Gill was probably expecting me to send Olaf to the contemporary TT but instead here he is in the 1930s. Rating R; 4,800 words.

Happy birthday to Queen of Crossovers jedibuttercup

This is a crossover far madder than any of hers. It’s not the Olaf ficlet that I mentioned yesterday; I was attacked by a most unusual plot bunny during the night at work and I couldn’t resist its onslaught. I had to set to work as soon as I arrived home and here is the result. Another of the series in which Willow’s banishing spell sends Olaf into another fandom instead of to the Land of the Trolls. This time it’s to the Island of Sodor, the setting for the ‘Railway Series’ by Rev. W. Awdry, starring Thomas the Tank Engine. Rating PG. 700 words.

Belated happy birthday to verboseartistry, who hasn’t posted since July 06 and so probably won’t see this greeting.

I’ve been unwell for the past couple of days. Something between a cold and flu, for I had aching joints and felt very weak as well as having the sore throat and runny nose, and I was sent home from work in the early hours of Saturday morning. I spent much of Saturday in bed, and did not go to work last night, but I’m much better now with only the conventional cold-type symptoms remaining, and those at a tolerable level.

I wasn’t feeling well enough to write on Friday and so I didn’t get my ‘Olaf meets Conan’ story finished then, as I had planned, but I’ve completed it today and here is the final part. For the preceding sections, go to Part One or Part Two. The whole story is 14,355 words. This part is 5,570 words, rating R.

Summary; crossover with the original Robert E. Howard ‘Conan’ stories rather than with the Schwarzenegger movies. Willow’s spell to banish Olaf to the Land of the Trolls goes awry and sends him to the Hyborian Age. There he meets Conan the Barbarian and gets involved in the affairs of a small city-state with a dying king, two rival temples, and two beautiful princesses.

This is definitely not a Valentine’s Day fic (except in the sense that I’m posting it on Valentine’s Day!).

Sometimes my estimates of how long a story will be, and how long it will take to write, can be very accurate. At other times I can be way off. This is one of those times; this story was supposed to be two parts, finishing today, and coming in at under 10.000 words. That’s not going to happen; minor characters grew, and insisted on their own parts of the story, and the plot grew to match. It now looks like it will be three parts, around 15,000 words in total, and finishing tomorrow; but I can’t rule out it growing beyond that. Sorry!

Summary; Willow’s spell to banish Olaf to the Land of the Trolls goes awry and sends him to the Hyborian Age. There he meets Conan the Barbarian and gets involved in the affairs of a small city-state with a dying king and two rival princesses. This part is 4,285 words; still probably PG but maybe touching R. I must apologise to those of you who are awaiting updates of my WIPs. I promised the conclusion of ‘Life, Resumed’; there has been no ‘Tabula Avatar’ update since December 27th; and curiouswombat is pressing me to make my contribution to the next chapter of our shared fic ‘Access All Areas’. Alas, I got distracted by a plot bunny (as booster17 guessed would happen) and I just couldn’t resist.

When I was looking up examples of ‘authorised sequels’ last week, in connection with my diatribe on the subject, I happened to notice that there was not a single work on ‘Twisting the Hellmouth’ that is a BtVS/Conan crossover and I mentioned that fact in my post. Booster said ‘I give it one week before you have a Conan crossover up there’; he knows me too well. Even as I was reading his comment I was savagely attacked by the plot bunny in question.

I tried to resist it, but to no avail, and this is what I’ve been working on when I should have been doing other things. It’s another one of my Where Did Olaf Go? challenge fics, in which Willow’s spell at the end of Triangle misses its target slightly and sends Olaf to somewhere other than the targeted Land of the Trolls. This is a crossover with the Conan books, the original Robert E. Howard stories, not with the comics or the (somewhat cheesy) Schwarzenegger movies. Not as overtly humorous as most of the other works in my Olaf series. Part One of three, 4,500 words, PG maybe edging towards R in the later parts.

Tonight I’ve been compiling a ‘soundtrack album’ for ‘Tabula Avatar’ on YouTube. I have a Favourites playlist consisting entirely of tracks played by Giles in the course of the story. I haven’t managed to locate everything yet but it does include ‘Sweet Home Alabama’, ‘Sit Down’, ‘White Room’, ‘Rebel Yell’, ‘I Won’t Back Down’, ‘Battleship Chains’, and of course ‘Sunshine on a Rainy Day’. I finished this run of nights at work yesterday and I had hoped to stay up all day and get back into a diurnal sleeping pattern straight away. It didn’t work out that way; I couldn’t stay awake and had to go to bed before 5 p.m. I slept through until 1.30 a.m. and as a result I missed the BBC Children In Need event. I saw the ‘QI’ special last week on BBC4, and I’ve watched some of the highlights on the Internet during the night, and it has inspired me to do a commemorative drabble in the Olafverse. Primarily for British eyes. 100 words, R.

The next chapter of ‘Tabula Avatar’ is progressing well and should be ready soon. I’m off work for two weeks and there should be new chapters of ‘Dojo Hard’ and ‘Life, Resumed’ also; but in the meantime here is yet another in my series of Where did Olaf the Troll go? ficlets, started in answer to a challenge at ‘Twisting The Hellmouth’. This time it is a 300-word piece in which Olaf is sent to a classic British TV show that ran for 30 years and was successful in the USA too. PG-13.
