Today is St George’s Day and, as usual, I think about how utterly inappropriate it is for a saint born in Lydda in Roman Palestine, who never went anywhere remotely near Britain, to be Patron Saint of England. He should be fired from the job and replaced by a genuine British saint; Saint Cuthbert would be my preferred candidate, with Saint Dunstan as second choice.
