Belated happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] bookfanatic; happy birthday (and welcome back!) to [livejournal.com profile] waywardchilde.

My daughter, who is studying History at York University, received an Amazon delivery of a book ‘Heresies in the High Middle Ages’. This led to a conversation between us about the Cathars and then about the Hussites. In discussing the Hussites she came up with the concept of a Hussite uprising amongst the Daleks.

“De-fen-est-rate! De-fen-est-rate! You will be de-fen-est-rated!”

Splendid! "defenestration" is a good word too :-)

Hee! Now that would have been a lot more appropriate for BBC teatime...

LOL.

For some reason I find something incredibly pleasing about the word "defenestrate" and the thought of a Dalek saying it makes it even better.

Daleks in Prague. (What's Czech for "Exterminate" I wonder?)

The heresies book sounds fun, with all those Bulgars, Cathars and other silly Bogomils. A crossover with Dr Hus perhaps?

The historic past collides with the fictional future.

That looks like an interesting book. I added it to my amazon wishlist. Has D-d read Eco's The Name of the Rose? That's where I first ran into some of these heresies: Bogomils, etc. Albigensians I already knew something about.

D-d likes books in theory but the actual reading, not so much. As a wargamer I know about almost all heresies that resulted in violent conflict.

Thank you!

It's a shame that we had so little time together at Reading; I hadn't expected to end up so far away from you at the meal.
